Oshkosh third-graders did better than the state average on this year's Wisconsin Reading Comprehension Test, and the local scores improved even more than did scores for the state overall.

Oshkosh schools reported that 88.8 percent of students scored as proficient or advanced on the test, which was given in March. This was a gain of 4.2 percentage points from the 2004 score. The comparable state figues were 87.4 scoring proficient or advanced and a gain of 2.5 percentage points.

At two Oshkosh schools, Lakeside and Sunset, all of the students scored as proficient or advanced. But seven local schools came in below the state average: Shapiro, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Jefferson, Franklin, Oaklawn and Smith. Webster Stanley was above the state average but below the district average.

Here is a list of all the Oshkosh area elementary schools, the number of students who took the test and the percentage scoring as proficient or advanced. This information was obtained from Wisconsin's Information Network for Succesful Schools.
