WINNEBAGO LABOR COUNCIL AFL-CIO ENDORSES CANDIDATES FOR LOCAL OFFICE IN APRIL ELECTION

The Winnebago County Labor Council AFL-CIO has completed their endorsement process and will be supporting the following candidates in the April general election.
For Oshkosh Common Council: Bryan Bain & Meredith Schuermann.

For Winnebago County Executive: Mark Harris

For Oshkosh School Board: Lee Wilson

For Circuit Court Branch 2: Scott Woldt

For Oshkosh Mayor: No Endorsement

The Winnebago County Labor Council represents over 5000 union members in Winnebago County. The endorsement process was based on answers received to labor based questions submitted to the prospective candidates.

“We feel that these candidates would best represent the interests of the working men and women of Wisconsin and especially Winnebago County. It is our belief that each one of these candidates brings to the table a special talent and vision which best addresses the concerns of the WCLC AFL-CIO,” stated Stephen Dedow President of the Winnebago County Labor Council.

For the record, I CHOSE NOT to answer the questions submitted by the Winnebago County Labor Council because they do not have a history of sharing a candidate's answers in their entirety with their full membership. I believe people should be able to make decisions on their own; and they cannot make fully informed decisions if they do not have complete answers. This is the same stand I have taken with other groups and that includes the Oshkosh Northwestern.

I declined their invitation to participate in their editorial board interview process for candidate endorsements. They made their choices for council before the primary election. And that is exactly why you will not find a representative from the Oshkosh Northwestern on the panel for the League of Woman Voters candidates' forum on March 16, according to one of the League's members.

While I personally would have had no problem with someone from the paper asking questions in the forum, I will continue to maintain that when groups want to share candidates' answers in their entirety with their membership, or they want to make those interviews open to the entire public or their entire membership, I will participate. Otherwise I will not. And I know of no organization that will endorse you if you don't return their questionnaire.

- Cheryl Hentz, candidate for Oshkosh Common Council

So, do you think that if you would have gone to the union they would have endorsed you?
