Nichols leaving the library
John Nichols, director of the Oshkosh Public Library for the last 23 years, announced his retirement this week.
"The library has certainly grown under his direction and he will be sorely missed," said City Manager Richard Wollangk in his weekly newsletter.
Nichols said he plans to be at the library until early February 2006.

Over the last 10 years or so, as our civil rights and liberties have been under fierce assault (from Clinton's Communication Decency Act to Bush's PATRIOT Act), I've come to admire John Nichols. His has been a powerful voice for intellectual freedom, freedom of information, and the public's right to know.
The Winnefox Library System is one of the finest in the nation. Most of the credit for that must go to John Nichols. Dick Wollangk is right--John Nichols will be sorely missed. --Tony Palmeri
It's a good thing Nichols is leaving. He is a very arrogant man, a self-proclaimed "futurist", and a notorious sham. Thank God we are seeing the last of you, Nichols.
