Background
I am a native of Indiana and have been a member
of the Oshkosh community since 1999, where I met and
married my wife Amanda.
I was raised in a working middle-class family where I
learned the values of honesty, respect, and hard work. In
fact, I took my first job during my junior year in high
school.
I was the first in my immediate family to attend college
and paid my way by working and with the help of student
loans. In 1997, I graduated with a bachelor’s
degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Ball State
University. I continued my education at Ball State
University and in 1999 earned my master’s degree
in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education.
I am currently the Assistant Director of Academic Advising
for the College of Education and Human Services at the
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. My involvement in
the community includes serving on the Oshkosh Plan Commission,
Oshkosh Comprehensive Plan Update Committee, UW Oshkosh
Senate of Academic Staff, and Oshkosh Area Humane Society
Board (ad-hoc member). I am also a member of Propel,
currently in Leadership Oshkosh, and a graduate of the
Oshkosh Police Citizens Academy.
Reasons for Running I am running for the Oshkosh Common Council because I
believe the upcoming election is one of the most important
in recent history. Continued progress depends on
a council that can respond to the issues of the present,
learn from the past, and plan for the future. Decisions
will be made that will shape the direction of the city. I
believe we need to elect leaders who will study issues,
make tough decisions, actively listen, offer a positive
message, and provide a vision for the city. I believe
I am that candidate.
Vision for Oshkosh My vision for Oshkosh is a vibrant, progressive, proud community. As
a young leader, I have a vested interest in enhancing our
overall quality of life and making Oshkosh a desirable
destination for businesses and families to call home. I
support:
- accessible and accountable city government
- forward-thinking planning and development (“smart
growth”)
- collaborative and entrepreneurial public-private partnerships
- revitalization and redevelopment of the central city
and riverfront areas
- fiscal responsibility
- strong, safe neighborhoods
I have followed city issues closely and attended the majority
of council meetings over the past two years. I care
deeply about this community and invite you to join me in
creating a shared vision for the City of Oshkosh.
It would be an honor for me to serve on the Oshkosh Common
Council. I welcome your support and ask you to vote
BAIN FOR COUNCIL on February 15th. |
